Compressing images with TinyPNG web side

First of all, you can compress your images directly on the TinyPNG website at: tinypng.com

Click on the TinyPNG web page to upload the images you want to compress (20 images at a time, maximum size 5MB), and TinyPNG will compress the images for you.

Then, click on download to download the compressed image to your local directory.

Depending on the image, the final result of the compression differs. For example, if we upload a 429.6KB image, the compression reduces the image size by 314KB, resulting in a final image size of 115.8KB, a 73% reduction.

TinyPNG uses intelligent lossy compression to reduce the file size of WebP, PNG and JPEG images. By selectively reducing the colors in the image, very few bytes are needed to save the data. The visual impact is almost invisible.

Compressing images with the TinyPNG plugin

Besides compressing images manually on the TinyPNG website, we can also use its plugin to automatically compress uploaded images on our WordPress website.

Login to the WordPress website backend (dashboard), select Add Plugin in Plugins, search for Compress JPEG & PNG images, and after you find the plugin (as below), click Install Now, and select Enable Plugin after installation.

In Compress JPEG & PNG images plugin management, select Settings, we can make relevant settings for the plugin.

You can login to TinyPNG’s API management interface with your registered email address.

In the dashboard, you can delete and add API key items.
